About this place
Located in a residential pocket of Uzumasa in Kyoto's Ukyo Ward, Elle is a traditional neighborhood coffee shop steeped in an easygoing, nostalgic charm. With newspapers and magazines on hand, the calm space invites visitors to take a seat and pass the time entirely at their own pace.
At lunchtime, the spotlight turns to affordable and satisfying yoshoku—Western-influenced Japanese comfort fare. Diners can enjoy familiar kissaten favorites such as a classic omurice set or a crisp pork cutlet plated over pasta for a filling meal. During morning hours, the kitchen also turns out breakfast sets that pair toast with coffee or black tea, salad, and choices like ham and eggs or bacon and eggs, offering a welcome spot to start the day.
For a post-meal treat or an afternoon respite, classic cafe drinks and sweets hit the mark. The selection features mixed fruit juice, frappes, and green tea Uji kintoki shaved ice topped with ice cream and sweet ogura red bean paste. Sipping a cup of house-blend coffee, solo guests can comfortably linger without any rush. Keep in mind that payment is cash only, so it is wise to bring along some yen notes and coins.
